Back in Wellington, end of South Island tour

Well, we finally had to abandon the South Island and make for Wellington to begin our job and house search. Got lucky again with the crossing, no violent seas to report, although Wellington has been lashed by high winds and rain since we arrived. There was even a big thunder storm with the loudest crack of thunder we have ever heard at about 4am!, which made us jump out of bed with a fright, I can tell you!! Finding work and accomodation for the next 6 months is now our top priority, hopefully we will find something soon on both fronts. That's all for now...

Return to Cable Bay

Hi everyone. We're back to the start of our South Island tour in Nelson, with a last quad trek (in Cable Bay) planned for tomorrow! From Dunedin (our last entry), we went to see the Moeraki Boulders and then travelled inland to Mount Cook. A couple of dusty unsealed roads and short walks later we got to some great views of both the mountain and the Tasman Glacier. We then headed back East to Lake Tekapo, which was a lovely stop point as we got to sit outside the camper looking out across a lovely lake to the rolling hills behind. The sunsets were lovely (as I'm sure the sunrises were......I was still in 'zzzz' land!). From here we then went back onto the East Coast at Timaru and travelled up to Christchurch. Heidi even did some driving (FINALLY!!!!). We had a great time at the Antartic Centre, including a trip on a haaglund and experiencing a -25 degree storm. We then drove to Lyttelton and took the scenic Summit Rd along the ridgeway. After leaving Christchurch we stayed at a small place in Greta Valley and, from an evening talking to some locals, inherited 2 sets of skis.We then had a longer trip yesterday through Kaikoura and on to Blenheim. And that brings us back to being in Nelson! So come next week it will be full steam ahead for the job hunt! Ah, back to the real world!
